Why AI in legal teams is no longer just a thing of the future

Legal tech is developing faster than many legal professionals can keep up with. According to Martijn Doornbos (CEO of LegalMike), this is precisely why you need to get on board now.

AI is no longer a gimmick for the legal sector. In a conversation with Marijn Rooijmans (founder of Lawyerlinq), Martijn Doornbos explains why prompting, automation, and validation are radically changing the work of legal professionals. “You make the biggest difference when you rise above the material. Then you are the expert who can guide AI, not the other way around.”

Generative AI is now capable of analysing legal files, creating timelines, and preparing advice – including the sources. But behavioural change takes time, especially in a sector where the fax was phased out not so long ago. Therefore, Doornbos advocates for early adoption. Not to replace legal professionals, but to use legal capacity more intelligently.

AI will soon take over an increasing amount of bulk work. What remains is where the human legal professional makes the difference: strategic insight, nuance, judgment. And it is precisely this combination that ensures a connection that feels right.
